Admission to Riker's Island
The main entrance to Riker's Island is over the Francis Buono Bridge, made on “November 22, 1966, by Mayor John Lindsay” (Department of History). As expressed by the Department of History, “the dream of having a bridge to Rikers Island was officially released on Tuesday, November 22, 1966, when Mayor John V. Lindsay was on hand to dedicate this structure as the nucleus of future building plans for the Department”. In view of discussion with senior staff, before the bridge was built in 1966, the main admission to Riker's Island was by ferry. Furthermore, transportation is additionally given by the MTA Q100 connecting individuals to the parking garage of the New York City Department of Correction.
