As stated in Ways of the World: A Brief Global History, “Islam was a religion born monotheistic in Mecca with similar beliefs to that of Judaism and Christianity.” The similarities that this religion provided, attracted many people unhappy with their belief system. Therefore, Islam captivated people from all cultures and backgrounds spreading their religion and empire beyond what Muhammad imagined. According to Robert and Strayer, “People from all around the world came for the belief system that was newly founded in the Arab empire.” This distinct set of beliefs benefitted many people from all walks of life. The commonality that followers shared forced unification of many unique cultures. According to Strayer and Nelson, “The catalyst for the birth of the new religion was a single individual, Muhammad Ibn Abdullah.” When Muhammad went to the cave to pray he was encountered by the archangel Gabriel to spread God’s word. Muhammad followed Gabriel’s message and started spreading the religion through the Quran. Not only was Muhammad leader through God, “but he also a political and military leader as well.” This role provided a sense of security for the people who believed God was on their side.
