I think Linear History explains historical events the most effectively. I believe this is due to events like the rise of technology, the Reconstruction era, and the Great Depression. Humanity is always progressing forward, and while there may be setbacks, they are not permanent due to the fact that we still continue to grow as a society through new inventions and working towards new goals. An example of the Linear History theory is the Great Depression. While it was a big setback, it led to many inventions that were extremely useful in the long run and changed the way we live today, such as the Social Security System. The leadership of these influential people has led us through many hardships and changed the course of history. At number four I have History below. While this theory does oppose the Great Person theory, the people supporting the leaders and uniting together to achieve a common goal are also extremely important. Without their followers, the “Great People” wouldn’t have been able to do everything they did, but I ranked it lower than Great Person because leadership is very important in big social and historical events. I have Marxism at number five, because throughout history there has been a division between the rich and the poor. The revolutions against the rich have shaped how the world works today, but I have it lower on the list because the divisions between social classes don't have as much of an impact as great leaders, people uniting, and advancements in technology and other aspects of society. Cyclical History is in sixth place because while there are some events in history that seem to repeat themselves, it is unfair to call it a cycle due to the fact that we are always progressing as a
