In Scouts Honor, by Avi, (1946) My belief is that the Narrator is stronger than he thinks he is. To prove to himself he was strong joins scouting. Scouting the Narrator thought would make a man of him since in scouting you’re in the woods a lot of the time and camping in the wilderness, The Narrator realizes that he is strong and he shouldn't worry about being tough. The Narrator and friends soon realize to get past the tenderfoot ranking in boy scouts the other 2 parts were easy but the last “mission,” to get past tenderfoot ranking was spending the night in the wilderness. Horse begins complimenting him by saying “you are strong” and etc the narrator's friends start the rivalry but say the narrator is the strongest like saying “I wasn't tough enough to decide to go home.”
The narrator truly shows he was tough when he starts realizing he didn't need to join scouting to be tough but to be truly tough he shows bravery when crossing the bridge all the same hoping his friends weren't coming after him so they could just decide to go home and just call it a night and lie to Mr.Brenkman but his friends were not tough enough decide whether they should go home or not but the Narrator was the one to decide to go home. Horse and Max are the Narrator's friends, while the Narrator is thinking he isn't so strong he thinks his friends are stronger than him so he tries to be tough. But horse and Max were always by the Narrator's side thinking he was much tougher than he was or what the Narrator thought of
