How important is the role of government regulation in our everyday lives? Very important, contrary to what one might think. Government regulation can be seen throughout multiple events in history, but its role is further emphasized in the rise of robber barons. Without guidelines about what not to do, robber barons took chances by becoming involved in criminal activities. Intimidation, violence, corruption, conspiracies, and fraud are just a few examples that have led these industry tycoons to fame. Not to be confused with “captains of industry,” robber barons are often associated with a negative influence and typically harm the lives of people, while “captains of industry” are more positive, donating both to charity and the welfare of others.
