It’s remarkably troubling to witness a child perish at such a young however in 1916 this was not that uncommon or surprising. In Robert Frost’s poem “Out, Out-,” he tells a story of a farm boy cutting his hand off with a buzzsaw while cutting wood on his family farm, leading to his death from extreme blood loss. Everyone seemed insensitive by his death and just continued on about their day. I believe that this farm boy lived with his father, brother, and sister with no mother around. I have also come to the conclusion that their family was not wealthy for a sum of reasons.
