For example, the wall that soon will be built to separate Mexico and the United States or a baby gate to block a child from the kitchen. Also, an emotional wall of moral values to block out negative impact from the world. These are the walls that are needed. It’s not because we don’t accept people but, because we don’t want to change or change others or hurt others. It’s a boundary of protection. In the poem, it says “no one has seen them made or heard them made” which goes with the protection idea because just because it doesn’t happen, doesn’t mean that it won’t. For example, if the child didn’t have a “fence” to block them from the kitchen; they could cut themselves with a knife or get into stuff that they aren’t supposed to. In addition, the quote “stay where you are until our backs are turned!” contradicts the entire poem. If you are isolating yourself, wouldn’t you want them to stay where they are even when your back is turned? In addition, even to protect yourself, you don’t want to turn your back and something bad happen. Finally, sometimes walls can help to protect you. It’s a contradicting topic on the importance of walls but, if the need of a wall means isolation then, you don’t need a wall. Protecting yourself is completely different and can save you harm in the
