Since the beginning of human existence till now, slavery has always been a problem. However, when the word slavery comes up, most Americans think of the slavery that occurred early in the making of this country, but slavery (as defined in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary) is submission to a dominate influence. This can range from any form, large too small. Essentially slavery is constantly changing and evolving. Today, slavery and the slave trade includes slavery and the slave trade. “Getting Tough on Sex Traffickers,” by Rod J. Rosenstein, talks about how gang activities, such as sex trafficking, is a major problem in the country. It also states how sex trafficking is modern day’s version of slavery. Many adolescent girls, have been taken from their lives and forced to live in terrible condition working as sex slaves. They are “requir[ed] to submit to sex with a line of customers” (Rosenstein). All around there are gangs. According to the article there are more than one million gang members and about thirty-three thousand different gangs, but these numbers are just an estimate. It also states in the article that “gangs seek to profit off of the victimization of others.” That means there are more than one million people separated into more than thirty-three thousand groups terrorizing our communities and victimizing individuals. Additionally, an underlying issue is why the gangs are terrorizing communities. In the article is states how gangs are performing these terrorizing activities just to sustain themselves. Many of them don’t live in the world’s best conditions and sometimes feel like it will help them live I better circumstances. We don’t know every reason why people join gangs, but this could be a reason; to “better” their living condition and have financial support to sustain themselves and their
