Have you ever felt alone, like nobody understood you? In "Freak the Mighty" by Rodman Philbrick, we follow the journey of Maxwell Kane, a boy who starts off feeling insecure and isolated but grows into a brave and confident individual.

At the beginning of the story, Max is like a turtle, hiding in its shell. He feels small and insignificant, always letting others dictate how he feels about himself. For instance, on page 4, when he admits, "Well, I was a butthead," it shows how he internalizes negative labels others put on him. This makes him an easy target for bullies like Tony D. Max's lack of self-confidence is further evident when he accepts being called "nobody" on page 21 without standing up for himself. This evidence shows Max is letting words get to his head that he should not. To sum it all up, these moments paint a picture of a boy struggling to find his place in the world.

During a medical emergency, he proves that he's not afraid to speak up when it matters most. These moments of bravery mark a turning point in Max's journey towards
