During this tale wrote by Edgar Allen Poe, A friend of Rodrick Usher visits him at his house because he is very sick and ill. A dark dreary place where the house of Rodrick Usher lies in the middle of the tarn. The very musky scent as you walk in the house. You get a lot of sense of Darkness which is a major theme in this story. You can see as the narrator walks in the house that it is very creepy and mystical.
In this story, Darkness shows a major part in this story. It’s very much a part of the setting. The house sits on a bed of tarn. When you walk up to the house it’s very dark and creepy. The story starts on one "...dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year...." which gives it right of the bat a very dark plot to the story. The outside of the mansion is the first of many dark and scary settings. There is a dark and scary lake and a giant crack running down the center of the mansion. Also, not to mention, you are in a horror story which make things very dark.
