“Roger! Put your teeth back in!” my grandma always says that when he sticks his false teeth out at any of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren. Then he just laughs also asking if we could do the same.
October of 1940 Roger Dean Taul was born to Hibbard and Marie Taul in their farmhouse outside of Baldwin City, KS. Papa had one older brother named Robert Stanley Taul, two sisters Linda and Sue Taul, and also one younger brother named John Dee Taul who died when he was 2 months.
For 8 years Papa went to Central Elementary, a one room school house, in Warden, KS. Then going to high school in Baldwin City, KS graduating from there as well. From what I hear none of the teachers liked him very much but his most influential teacher was Ralph Webb who coached football and taught shop. And his best experience was actually graduating.
Papa’s role model was the ‘King of the Cowboys’, Roy Rogers; he and his brother and sister would play cowboys and Indians. One time when they were playing, it was time to eat supper so they went inside and Grandpa Hibbard asked where Linda was. Papa said, “Well, we were playing cowboys and Indians so she’s still tied up to the post.” Otherwise they would put Aunt Linnie up in a tree and make her land on a moving

Papa’s favorite family member is Uncle CT. Papa met Carol Sue Burns (Granny) the spring of 1959, and they were married April 1, 1960, in Lawrence, Kansas. She became his best friend. About 8 or 9 months later Rusty Dean Taul was born, and then Tamara (Tami) Sue Taul arrived. When Rusty, my dad, was 8 or 9, he got mad and said he wanted to run away, or well, drive away on his motorcycle. Papa said ok pack your bags and go. So Dad did, and Papa watched and just to say it the field was just plowed. Anyway Papa saw Dad go to the corner and turn around then drive back, so when Dad made it back, Papa said, “Thought you wanted to run away,” and Dad said, “Well, the road was too
