Today I will be talking about the birth of the Ancient Roman Republic 509 BCE. The Ancient Roman Republic had five purposes: provide a public service, protect rights, promote rule of law, prepare common defence, and support the economic system.
When it came to providing a public service I would give the Roman Republic a A (100%). One example of something the Roman Republic provided Aqueducts. The amazing and advanced Roman waterway system known as the Aqueducts, are one with the greatest achievements in the ancient world. The running water, indoor plumbing and sewer system was carrying away disease from the population within the Empire. The aqueducts were built from different combinations of stone, brick and the special volcanic cement pozzuolana.

FOr example, slavery. Slavery was a very big institution in Ancient Rome. It was a normal part of the Roman society. It was not unusual for a home of moderate means to have slaves. Slaves had very few rights, and their owners could treat them horribly with very little fear of any legal consequences. Slaves could earn enough money to buy their freedom later in life. After buying their freedom, many slaves would often become tradesmen. Despite earning their freedom and learning a trade. Freed slaves still could not get citizenship in Rome. However, their children could become citizens. Another example is, gladiators. Gladiators were trained warriors who were forced to fight in contests to entertain the Romans. They were usually recruited from slaves or prisoners of war. The fighting was very dangerous and deadly. There were three types of gladiators were the samnite, the secutor, and the retiarius. The saminte were very heavily armed. The retiarius used a trident (three-pronged spear) and a net. The secutor had a specialized helmet and equipment to fight their opponents. When a gladiator was injured or fell down, the crowd would decide his fate. If he had fought well enough the crowd would raise their thumbs meaning to let him live, but if the thumb of the crowds would point down or horizontally it meant to kill him. Lastly, Roman citizens were divided up into two distinct classes: the plebeians and the patricians. The patricians were considered the wealthy upper class people. Everyone else was considered a plebeian. Only certain people/families could be part of the patrician class, and you had to be born a patrician. The patricians were only a small percentage of the Roman population, but they held all the power. Plebeians were the farmers, craftsmen, laborers, and soldiers of Rome. Starting around the time of 494 BC, the plebeians began to fight against the rule of the patricians. This
