I watched the 1996 version of Romeo and Juliet, starring Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio. While there are more differences between this rendition and the play, there are a few similarities. As the prologue states that the story of Romeo and Juliet “is now the two hours’ traffic of our stage”, the movie is exactly two hours long. Also, Baz Luhrmann, the director, chose to keep the dialogue almost identical to that in the play, though some of the speeches were shortened. Furthermore, the plot of this version follows the play very closely; the characters are the same, as well as the setting in Verona and main events.
