First, Juliet is on the balcony and Romeo is below her listening to her speak about him. She says, “O Romeo, Romeo wherefore art thou Romeo?/ Deny thy father and refuse thy name,/ Or if thou will not, be but sworn my love,/ and I’ll no longer be a Capulet” (II.ii.36-39). Juliet is asking Romeo why he is a Montague. She is asking him to deny his name and family or she will, so they can be together. Juliet loves Romeo so much that she is willing to betray her family so that they can be together. The power of love is so strong that she is willing to give up the life she’s known for a long time in return for a life with Romeo. One way that this situation can have a dangerous outcome is that Lord Capulet might get so angry at Lord Montague that they have a war-like fight between them. This will endanger the lives of other people in Verona even if it didn’t pose as a danger to Romeo and Juliet directly.
