Dramatic Irony is used in Act 4 of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. For example, when the Nurse says, “Get you to bed. Faith, you’ll be sick tomorrow for this nights watching.” This is a good example of dramatic irony because little does the Nurse know that Juliet will be dead for 24 hours. Another example is when Juliet exclaims, “Where I have learn'd me to repent the sin of disobedient opposition to you and your beheasts, and an enjoined.” Juliet is talking to Friar Laurence and Paris but little does Paris know that Juliet and Friar Lawrence are going to talk about how to get out of this mess. Finally, when Capulet says, “Death is my son-in-law, Death is my heir.” This final example is a great use of Dramatic Irony
