These actions may seem extreme for our time and may cause the deeper message of “Romeo and Juliet” to go unnoticed. However, themes in this play still allow it to be relevant to our society. “Romeo and Juliet” presents the audience with a very big theme, and no it is not about love. Instead this theme appears towards the end of the play and though small it causes the greatest tragedy of all, their deaths. This theme shows the consequences of miscommunication, which happens a lot in our society today. In the case of “Romeo and Juliet”, miscommunication occurs when Friar Laurence’s message to Romeo is unable to reach him, leading Romeo to believe Juliet is actually dead. This causes a tragic series of events of Romeo killing himself and then Juliet doing the same. It may be hard to understand that all this death and destruction may have easily been avoided if only the message had gotten to Romeo. Even though today we don’t have men on horseback delivering us messages, miscommunication still occurs. In today’s society miscommunication can be seen through the spread of false rumors, or maybe even a simple text message that was taken the wrong way. The death of Romeo and Juliet, though in an extreme way, helps show people that you should be careful
