Kajsa Finnern Mr. Milford College English 4/19/24 The Making of Multicultural America Reading Response The first chapter from the book A Different Mirror by Ronald Takaki, discusses the history of cultures in America. Through lenses of minority groups, the author explains historical trials they have faced to gain acceptance in the United States. This reading evoked feelings of empathy. Despite a lack of personal experience, awareness is given to minorities who have suffered from types of racism and discrimination. “They called us ‘Chink’” complained a Chinese immigrant, cursing the “white demons””(Takaki, 2008, p. 7).
