As stated before I have a very goal oriented approach to leadership. I form my vision of what I want to happen and I work to achieve that vision. This makes me very well suited for “big picture” planning I have an easy time looking at the end game and seeing the different ways my plans can work out. However there are times when I lose sight of the big picture and will focus down and begin to micro manage. This is more often than not due to individuals or small groups of people who are either unwilling or unable to reach my intended vision. when this happens I begin to feel personally obligated to pick up the slack or to motivate the individuals to improve their performance. Two examples of this happening are, one at Basic Camp last summer my squad had a single lateral entry cadet who was not proficient at any of the basic military concepts. While I was in leadership positions instead of focusing on the end goals I had laid out I devoted myself to helping this cadet along when I should have tasked one of my other subordinates to handle the situation so that I could focus on the tasks at hand. The second example would be a few weeks ago during a PT session when one of the cadets was falling behind during Ruck PT and I personally fell back to assist them instead of staying with the larger group where I could have more command and sending the cadets squad leader back to help motivate them.
