Roy Dell was beginning to have second thoughts about this whole arrangement. He would do anything to help out his best friend Joe. There were numerous times that Joe had stuck out his own neck for him, lending him a helping hand when no one else was around. Roy Dell felt obligated to return the favor to his cowboy brother, but there was just something about this whole ordeal that wasn’t sitting right. The two friends had known each other most of their lives. They were as close as any two brothers. So it would come as no surprise when Joe took an interest in the rodeo life as a young man that Roy Dell would, too. Both of their fathers had shared the spotlight in the rodeo arena. She was just a kid the last time Roy Dell had seen her, but as Joe explained in a phone call late one night, she had gotten herself involved with a group of “no gooders”, heading down the wrong path of alcohol and drug addiction. Joe begged Roy to help him to try and get his sister sober and as far away from her so called friends as he possibly could. He had no one else to turn to. Their parents were both gone, and they only had each other to rely on. He thought if Roy Dell would take her in and put her in lock down for a few days at his place, they could convince her to stay clean and help her on a road to recovery.

“Joe, there are facilities out there that are better equipped to handle this kind of situation. Why not take her where she can get professional help?” Roy was no drug counselor. He was thankful he had never succumbed to drugs or alcohol, even though both were readily available to him and his buddies when they were out in the rodeo scene. Roy Dell had a good head on his shoulders, always keeping his eye on the prize. All he ever wanted was to live a simple life, to work hard, be around his horses and live the cowboy
