After completing my case study report, I feel that I learned a lot about the RTI process. There are a lot of steps involved in the RTI process and I understand why it must be started early in the school year if I want to truly remedy student behavioral issues. The process, while overwhelming at first, proved to be effective when dealing with the student's behavioral problem.
The RTI process requires a lot of data finding and research. I found the RTI process to be equitable for the student involved because of this. Both my data and my intervention were based strictly on facts. It was not me assuming the student had behavioral issues or guessing at what would be the best method of correcting the misbehavior. Starting the RTI process enabled me to impact student learning. Through conducting interest surveys, learning inventories, and interviews I was able to get to know the student and know what would motivate him to behave appropriately. The intervention that was implemented, gave the student what he wanted based on his interest survey and interview, allowing the intervention to be successful. The student started following directions the first time and without complaining. The student was also going from one activity to the next in a timely manner and with little urging from me. Since the intervention was effective, the student was spending more time completing his work and less time on noncompliant behaviors. This in turn, allowed me to have more time to teach and less time dealing with the student.
