Rules in Lord of the Flies “Without rules, human beings would all revert to savagery.” This quote means that without rules, people would go insane. This quote is a perfect representation of the Lord of the Flies novel. When a numerous amount of adolescents are left alone on an island, something bad is bound to happen. The author, William Golding, would agree with this statement
First, the boys tried to establish rules. While wondering across the abandoned island, Piggy and Ralph found a conch shell. “We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They’ll come when they hear us.” (16) This was the start of Ralph’s leadership and him trying to establish rules. When an assembly was called, the group would sound the conch shell, and only the person holding it could speak. During the first assembly, the boys gave each other positions. Ralph was the chief, and Jack was in charge of the choir. These were the main positions that would start the chaotic story of …show more content…
Young kids must have adult supervision; they do not have the experience like adults do. They do not understand how to set rules, and be able to start from scratch. At first, the kids were the boys were fine, but after time went by they became insane. The beast was the thing that every kid was scared of, and they wanted to viciously kill it. When Simon went to tell the boys that the beast was just a dead man, they started to shout “Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!” (152) as they charged and killed him. Young boys were killing each other because of how insane they were.
In conclusion, “Without rules, human beings would all revert to savagery” is an almost perfect representation of the Lord of the Flies novel. Since the boys tried to make rules, Jack vetoed the only rule, and then the boys having no set rules, the boys went insane. They went from trying to survive, to killing allies.
