In "Ads for Runaway Servants and Slaves" the information included in a lot of these advertisements were clothes they were wearing, if they could pass off for being Native American or if they could pass for being a free man or woman, how well they could speak English, what their jobs were as slaves or servants. The descriptions in these selected characteristics for the ads have a lot to do with labor and lifestyles of the colonial slaves and servants. For example, the ads for women described their jobs to be "a very good cook, washer, and understanding of Household Work" (p 71) as well as "has been entertained in several houses at needlework" (p 75). Meanwhile, the men's duties were butcher (p 71) to farmer (p 72) as well as carpenter (p 72).
