Sacrifice Sacrifice to most would be giving up watching television to finish their homework, or missing the big game to help their parents finish some yard work. Both of these aren’t that important, and would not matter all that much which one they chose. But real sacrifice, the the kind that has meaning, is giving up a part of yourself to better a cause. Sometimes it means giving your life. No better examples of sacrifice exist than that of the men and women who are in our Armed Forces. Approximately 1.1 million soldiers have paid the the ultimate price in all of our wars combined. He has been in the military all of his life. When he turned eighteen, he joined the United States Navy. He was assigned to a ship named the the USS Josephus Daniels where he was an aid to the the ship’s chaplain. Eight years later, he joined the Army, where he is today. He has been deployed more than three times to Iraq and Afghanistan. He sacrificed a large part of his life away from his home and family to protect America and everyone in it. His actions show extreme bravery, but that’s an essay for another time. In a little known story book that goes by the name of Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone, a young wizard by the name of Harry lives with his aunt and uncle in misery. He is told that his parents died in a car accident, and that is why he has never known them. Only after another wizard named Hagrid tells him of his magical ancestry does he learn that his aunt and uncle were lying to him about his parents’ demise. An evil being named Ronan is seeking to destroy a planet called Xandar. The Guardians are trapped on Ronan’s ship, and it is on a collision course with the ground. Groot, being a tree-like humanoid figure, wills his limbs to grow around the other Guardians so as to protect them from the crash landing. He creates a sphere around them, but is seemingly killed once the ship crashes. He gave up his life like a true hero so that the Guardians could live on to defeat Ronan. His best friend Rocket holds on to a shredded piece of twig that is left of Groot’s body, and is able to grow him a new one. None of them thought this would be possible before the ship went down. They all accepted that Groot was about to give his life for the greater cause of defeating Ronan to protect the planet
