Have you ever realized that the desert and polar regions are almost the same? In the polar areas, there is a barren wasteland of ice and snow, and in desert areas, there is a barren wasteland of sand and rock. Almost nothing can live in the two, yet we have somehow found a way. There are the Tuareg in the desert, and the Eskimos in the arctic, and they both live just fine. The Tuareg live in the Sahara Desert, the biggest non-polar desert on earth. Tuareg are also called Blue People because of the blue turban that they wear. When meeting a new person, they pull their turban over their face as a sign of respect, and some of the dye rubs off onto their face, thus the name, the Blue People. However, they are in danger. A process called desertification is making more and more of the continent of Africa become the Sahara desert. This is dangerous because it means that less and less of the oases and shrubbery that animals need to survive are disappearing. If we keep this up, the entire continent of Africa could one day be desert. This only happens, however, …show more content…
The Arctic is a cold, frozen, barren wasteland that is not the easiest place to live. Unlike the Sahara, there are quite a few types of animals in the polar areas. Just to name a few, there are Orcas, Polar Bears, Penguins, Seals, and more. All these animals have been able to successfully survive despite freezing cold temperatures daily. Global Warming, though, is a problem for the polar areas. Because of the sudden increase in temperature, sea ice that polar bears need to survive are melting, glaciers which we use for fresh water is flowing into the ocean, and the high temperatures are causing the ice not to freeze as quickly. In other words, the supply and production rate are both decreasing. If we just let it pass, we will have to use more and more energy to make fresh water. On the bright side, global warming does not affect the non polar
