One of the first miracles was when a construction worker got his foot crushed by a stone. It couldn't be repaired and there was an amputation scheduled for the next morning. At that time, there were holy cards with a prayer for Saint Maria’s canonization being distributed in Italy. The worker’s wife took one and wrapped it around his foot with a bandage. The next morning when the doctors were getting ready for the amputation, they saw that the worker’s foot was completely healed. He had returned back to work later that day. There have been many things devoted to the courageous Saint Maria Goretti. There are many schools and churches across the world named after her. Some of them in the U.S. are in Texas, California, and Indiana. Maria Goretti’s feast day is July 6. She was canonized on June 24, 1950. Many things had moved the Church to name Maria a saint. First of all, she had forgiven her murderer while she was dying. She had prayed that Alessandro would be with her in heaven when he died. Secondly, she was only 11 when this happened.
