Saint Teresa of Calcutta was born on Aug. 26,1910 with the name of Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in Skopje. Her parents were Nikola and Drane Bojaxhiu. Her dad died when she was only 8 years of age. "Agnes" left from her house in Skopje in 1928.She was 18 when she went to go join the Institute of blessed Virgin Mary in Ireland. There she adopted the name Sister Mary Teresa named after St. Therese of Lisieux.

In December in 1929, she traveled to India for missionary work. She made her first profession of vows in May 1931. Teresa was assigned to the Loreto Entally Community. She also taught at St. Mary's School for girls. "On May 24, 1937 , becoming as she said the spouse of Jesus for all eternity." After that, she was then named Mother Teresa".
