An example of John’s inner conflict is shown right when Abigail begins to falsely accuse people of withcraft. John Proctor knows that Abigail is lying and taking advantage of the hysteria in Salem though he proceeds to do nothing. Although John Proctor wants to expose Abigail and her lies, it would lead to him to losing his reputation as he would need to tell the village that he had committed lechery.
