Samuel Houston popularly called as Sam Houston was a legend of his times.. whose life was encouraging and colorful, from a modest family he rose to become the governor of two states and the represent in Congress. Born on March 2nd, 1793 in Virginia to Samuel and Elizabeth, he was the fifth child in an ordinary family with Irish and Scottish heritage. His early life was a period of struggle and poverty. He was not born into a family of riches and therefore after basic education in the local school for less than a year and a half, he had to quit further education due to the sudden death of his father at the age of thirteen. The family moved to Tennessee in 1807 where the family lived on a farm in Blount County Tennessee. As you all might know that Sam Houston led the Texas Revolution, well before the Alamo started, Sam Houston has fought many other battles in the US nation hard for it which he showed the true quality of a great leader and that is to lead by example. He then joined the American army and with his own hard work he rose from the Private to the Second Lieutenant. He never waited for the opportunities to come to him but instead worked.
