Samuel C. Dobbs, Coca-Cola’s sales manager, was the driving force behind the creation of BBB. This came after the trial when Coca-Cola was on trial for false advertising. This is when Mr. Dobbs embarked on a journey to create standards for the advertising industry to ensure the truthfulness of advertising claims. Dobbs became the president of the Associated Advertising Clubs of America. Which became the Better Business Bureau in 1912 (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, 2015).
The Better Business Bureau in known to be one of the best self-regulatory trade associations in the United States. Its purpose is to create an environment of trust between buyers and sellers. The Better Business Bureau uses their website, newspapers, and the media to inform consumers of business who has violated these standards. Those that are found to be in violations are expelled from the association (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, 2015).

The Better Business Bureaus has several chapters which are supposed to maintain the objectivity stands which provides the BBB with its credibility as a trustworthy resource. It is hard for the Better Business Bureau to monitor every branch for proper conduct with the agency being so large. It has been said that for the last few year’s representatives from other branches of the Better Business Bureau has abused their authority by engaging in misconduct.
