Samurai Knights Dbq

Samurai and Knights take a long trip to 1000 to 1600 CE. Both Knights and Samurai took victory in wars. If Knights, and Samurai engaged in Battle, who would triumph? In my opinion, I think samurai’s would win in war. These soldiers developed in Japan and Europe because there conditions led to the need of protection ; “The Imperial court was challenged by the rise of the clans.” (Source 1). So Who would triumph, a knight, or a samurai? I would think samurais would triumph because they have more knowledge than knights. They trained younger than knights, literally. “A boy in a Samurai family was given his first sword when he was born. It could be as strong as steel, hard as a rock. Although knights had some of the same things, Samurais were layered for war, ready to fight. The face guard protects the samurai by its 8 to 12 iron plates. Although knights had armor as well and were more protected, Samurais had throat guards. This protected the throat by being slashed deadly. “Similar pieces of lacquered metal formed waist plates that hung from the breastplate rested below the helmet,” This is how the lower body is protected. “This created a ‘Shell’ that provided both mobility and protection.” (Source 3) Armor did help, but what about the weapons? The weapons samurais used were bows and arrows, the sword, and the spear. The bows had an advantage because the bow was bigger and taller than the person himself. The long sword, Katana, was the samurais most special possession. People describe it as “the soul of the samurai.” It was a long, curved sword that can cut through a brick of ice. It was also a single edged blade so you could have a long handle grip, sometimes used with two hands for extra power. For more protection, the samurai carried an extra short sword called a Wakizashi. It was only often used to deliver the straw of breath that an enemy has. Samurais have disadvantages, but have a lot more advantages. Samurais are loyal, confident, and engaged in a war if needed to.
