In the essay, “Ghosts and Voices: Writing from Obsession” written by Sandra Cisneros, her hardships were described thoroughly from beginning to end. Cisneros makes it clear that she was raised in a society where the social norm was superimposed on a television monitor, she explained how she found it difficult to comprehend why her home wasn't “all green lawns and white wood” just as the ones displayed on the sitcoms that were aired on television. With much despair, she yearned to believe that her hardship and lack of resources was just a brief situation, so she lost herself in stores, in which she found an escape to all her troubles.
