Growing up in America has had its ups and downs, for our nation has had some good days and some tragedy that has help shape the America we live in today. Our country has been here many years and have been through many obstacles, however; I always wanted to know how life was in the 1960s. I wanted to know about the many tragedy that happened in this era and the many worthy things that took place from someone who lived in this time frame. Interviewee Sarah Becks who is 85 years old, grew up on a farm south of Texas in the 1930s. Sarah was born to Clifton Becks and Isabella Becks who was both biracial. In the 1960s, Sarah moved to Waxahachie, Texas were she mostly worked at hospitals, people homes, and some factory work to keep from being broke. in Downtown Dallas along with Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson when he was shot out of nowhere. President Kennedy was then rushed to the Parkland hospital where he was pronounced dead. She recall this day being very depressing day for all Americans. She also talk about how four years later John F. Kennedy brother Robert Kennedy ran for presidency , and he won but was shot to death before he could even get sworn in .Even though she experience such tragedy in this era , she also witness worthy things that happen in America as well. In 1964, Sarah witness the civil rights act being passed which made a change for many others and her being that she was African American. When asking Sarah about her thoughts on the civil rights movements, she exclaimed “I want to thanks those individual like Martin Luther King Jr., and many others that help fought for her rights as well as many other African American rights. If it wasn’t for them fighting for our rights, I wouldn’t have the privileges I have today.” Sadly, Martin Luther king Jr. was shot to death before he could see the changes he help
