Synopsis: Sarah Moore Grimke was a very important figure of history. She promoted anti-slavery and women’s rights along with her sister through literature. The sisters became models to many women that wished gender equality, and are still remembered to this day.
Early Life: Sarah Moore Grimke was born in South Carolina, on November 26, 1792. Her life on a southern plantation developed a sentiment of anti-slavery from the unfairness she observed. She and her sister, Angelina Grimke, also resented the limitations given to women. Gender inequality had stopped Sarah Grimke from studying law, but not from her brother. Frustrated, she moved to Philadelphia with Angelina and joined the Quakers in 1829.
