As an assignment in my UNIV 011.02 Learning Strategies class we were given the assignment to interview a professor from another class that we are currently taking and write a three to four-page reflection about the overall experience. I interviewed Professor Sarah Shipp, who’s a professor of learning strategies at Abilene Christian University. Shipp is originally from Destin, Florida. Shipp received her Bachelor of Science in psychology from ACU in 2007 also she received her Master of Science in counseling psychology from ACU in 2013 but currently resides in Abilene, Texas to help improve the learning of adolescents that might need extra guidance in the beginning of their college semester. Before becoming a professor at ACU Shipp was working at a hospital. It was not until she was job searching she found the position to run an adolescent program at ACU. At that moment she did not know she would be teaching classes for students in the program until showing up. When beginning the position Shipp was nervous with students also speaking in front of them during lectures. But B students typically do not engage in class lectures or activates and are usually skipping class and falling behind classmates. This matter can usually lead to their letter grade falling below average. Briefly after discussing her views on students in her class I then asked Shipp, “Are there any areas you would suggest, I could improve on, either in this course or personally to help me earn the grade I want?” she subsequently said, since it’s still early on in the course of her class there isn’t much information she could have gave me but to continue engaging in class.
After hearing the many responses from Shipp I then decided to ask her some general college advice questions as a college freshman. I then asked “what would you say the best study spots are at ACU?” her response was here at ACU you can find open classrooms in the Bible Building, the lower level and the upper level of the Brown Library.
