n World War Two, many suffered abuse and horror at the hands of the Nazi’s during the Holocaust. Two works, Schindler's List and Night, tell the stories of some of these experiences. Elie, the protagonist of Night, is a teenage boy who is very strong in his faith, and Schindler is a profit-driven businessman. They both undergo extreme events and through these, their authentic selves are shown. Elie goes from being a dedicated Jewish boy, to a questioning teen who doubts God’s existence. Schindler goes from an egotistical rich businessman to an altruistic man who gives his entire fortune to the people he once exploited. Elie is a young, devout Jewish boy who does everything in his power to further his relationship with God. He is eager to have a mentor and feels he is ready, even though his father says he is not. He goes after Moishe the Beadle and gets him to be his teacher. When Moishe the Beadle is taken and the ghetto is established, Elie remains positive. He was determined that God had a purpose for everything going on in his life and stayed strong in his faith, never questioning anything. Schindler in the beginning is a selfish and greedy businessman. He sees the opportunity for cheap labor from the Jews and takes it without a second thought. His motivations were production and money, shown when the man with one arm comes up to thank him and he is enraged, wondering how the man is making money for him. He spends all his money on lavish things, even moving into the former home of a Jewish family. Schindler was indifferent towards Jewish suffering, only caring about their well-being when it affected his business.
