Schooled, by Gordon Korman features the extraordinary character Capricorn Anderson. The story has many events that affect the way people view him from the beginning to the end of the novel. Capricorn has never experienced the world outside of his home. His home is Garland Farms which is basically a hippie farm. He has lived at Garland since he was a baby, with his grandmother Rain. She doesn’t believe in the modern lifestyle, so she has isolated Cap from the outside world. In the beginning of the story Rain falls out of a plum tree, and breaks her hip. Next Cap is forced to live in a temporary home, and attend Claverage Middle School.
Cap’s first days of Middle School were very difficult, because he is exotic in comparison to the majority of students at Claverage Middle School. Cap is socially awkward so he is the perfect target for bullying. The school principal said that “ I’ve never met a student who knows so little about everyday life”. “The tradition at C average Middle School is to nominate the biggest loser”, so it was no surprise to the other students when Cap got the role of eighth grade president. A bunch of students are aboard a school bus. The bus driver, Mr. Rodrigo begins to have a heart attack, and Capricorn Anderson is on the bus. Cap knows how to drive, and can tell that Mr. Rodrigo won’t be able to operate the bus. He heroically jumps into the driver’s seat and gets directions to the hospital. The whole trip to the hospital, police officers were chasing the school bus. When the officers tried to arrest him, the students of Claverage Middle School shouted “ Quit pushing the guy around, he’s a hero”. Now the students’ thoughts about him start to change, because he saved Mr. Rodrigo’s life and everyone thinks he is a hero. Cap is starting to gain
