Global water consumption is a growing concern in the world today. The un-necessary amount of water that is being used in the United States today is limiting the availability of water to others around the world. This problem is causing many deaths of dehydration and disease that is being passed through the unfiltered water. Since drinkable and consumable water is a limited resource it is important for people to realize the value of water. 10% of the drinkable water on earth is stored in glaciers. If the amount of water used daily is calculated then the daily use could be adjusted because water is essential to life on earth.
For this lab our class had to record our daily water usage for five days. During this time we had to time how much water we used while using the sink, showering, and bathing and calculate how many times we used the dish washer, washing machine, and the toilet. After recording this data the total liters of water used each day was calculated.
Water Usage Activity | Liters per Use | Estimations | Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Total | Toilet | 23 L/flush | 92 L | 115 L | 69 L | 92 L | 115 L | 115 L | 483 L | Shower | 26 L/min | 212 L | 193.45 L | 138.86L | 185.5 L | 212 L | 238.5 L | 968.3 L | Bathing | 26.5 L/min | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | Dishwasher | 57 L/load | 57 L | 57 L | 57 L | 57 L | 57 L | 57 L | 342 L | Washing Machine | 227 L/load | 227 L | 227 L | 0 | 0 | 227 L | 227 L | 681 L |
