Hospitals. Doctor’s offices. Schools. Military bases. These are just some of the places that a Registered Nurse can work at. They can heal sick patients, educate the community by giving information on health, and inspire children and adults. Nursing is in high demand and has become more challenging over the past 20 years. Nurses impact the lives of many different people.
Registered Nurses, also known as RNs, take it upon themselves to help and educate individuals, families, and groups on how to obtain health and to prevent disease (Careers in Focus: Nursing, 187). As a Registered Nurse you will need to find employment. Luckily, there are many places where a Registered Nurse can work. This includes a physician's office, hospitals, nursing homes, home health care services, military nursing, and travel nursing (What You'll Do as an RN). Registered nurses typically work eight hour shifts. The first shift is from 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.. The second shift is from 3:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M.. Finally the last shift is from 11:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M. (Careers in Focus: Nursing, 195). According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, as of May 2015, Registered Nurses earn an average annual wage of $67,490 (Registered Nurses, Summary). The yearly gross salary of a Registered Nurse is $67,490. After taxes, a Registered Nurse, would take home $44,948.34. This is a livable wage, however, it would be valuable to have a second job to supplement this salary. There are many things that can be done by having a nursing degree.
