We might consider history boring or interesting but without it we would do the same mistakes over and over again. As a matter of fact, we humans preserve history as a story that describe ourselves. It tells us how we were thousands of years ago, it tells us how we react in front of different situations. Thus, we can avoid the same miscalculation we did years ago. However, history doesn’t limit itself just by the big event or the big scale war. There are some smaller part in our past that we can take note from. For example, how people in that time live can tell us what sanitary precautions we need to take to avoid diseases. In other words, every day you have to find a way to live, to feed yourself so you don’t starve. In 1622, Sebastian Brandt, a colonist describe his life in Jamestown. In a letter, his work consist of putting in order vinegar, cheese, spices and tools from the London Company that were not available in Jamestown. Mostly Brandt came to Jamestown in search of gold and silver. But unfortunately those minerals were nowhere to be found near Jamestown. In this letter, he also mentions that he would pay in in tobacco and furs. That is to say, there was no money in Jamestown or it was kind of rare. To pay something you had to exchange goods that both parties agreed to. It was also mention in letter that both his wife and brother died due to illness and he himself was also sick. It also mean that there was no real clinic or doctor to take care of certain diseases. Even though he was sick, he was willing to climb the hills just to find gold and silver. This prove that he was really desperate. He didn’t care about his life, all he could think of was his own enrichment. In the end, the life expectancy was very low because he himself died not long after written this
