ANTI/TIA/EAI – 606 – A STANDARD
• THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE IS TO PROVIDE A UNIFORM ADMINISTRATION THAT IS
INDEPENDENT OF APPLICATIONS. FOUR CLASSES ARE SPECIFIED.
• CLASS 1 ADDRESSES THE ADMINISTRATION NEEDS OF A PREMISE THAT IS SERVED
BE A SINGLE EQUIPMENT ROOM
• CLASS 2 PROVIDES FOR THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS INFRASTRUCTURE ADMIN
NEEDS OF A SINGLE BUILDING OR TENET THAT IS SERVED BY ONE OR MORE
TELECOMMUNICATIONS SPACES.
• CLASS 3 ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF A CAMPUS, INCLUDING IT’S BUILDING AND
OUTSIDE PLANT ELEMENTS.
• CLASS 4 ADDRESSES THE NEEDS OF A MULTI-SITE SYSTEM.

• SPECIFIES GENERAL-PURPOSE TELECOMMUNICATION CABLING SYSTEM THAT
ARE SUIT ABLE FOR A WIDE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS.
• THIS COVERS BOTH BALANCED COPPER CABLING AND OPTICAL FIBER
CABLING
• THERE IS CURRENTLY A MAJOR REVISION , EDITION 3, IS BEING PREPARED
WHICH WILL UNIFY REQUIREMENTS FOR COMMERCIAL, HOME, AND
INDUSTRIAL NETWORKS.

• THIS IS A SET OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS STANDARDS FROM THE
TELECOMMUNICATION INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION (TIA), AN OFFSHOOT OF THE
ELECTRONICAL INDUSTRIAL ALLIANCE (EIA).
• THIS ADDRESS COMMERCIAL BUILDING CABLING FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS
PRODUCTS AND SERVICES.
• AS OF 2014 THIS STANDARD SANDS AND REVISION C, REVISION B WAS
REPLACED IN 2001, AND REVISION A WAS REPLACED IN 1995, THE ORIGINAL
WAS REPLACED IN 1991.

• MUTOAS PROVIDE A SINGLE OUTLET ASSEMBLY TO SERVE MULTIPLE USERS IN

PATHWAYS AND SPACES STANDARDIZES SPECIFIC PATHWAY SPACE DESIGN
AND CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES IN SUPPORT OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS
MEDIA AND EQUIPMENT WITHIN BUILDINGS.
• SHOULD ALSO PROVE TO BE USEFUL TO THE TEAM THAT IS RESPONSIBLE
FOR DELIVERING A WELL-DESIGNED FACILITY OWNER, THE ARCHITECTS,
ENGINEERS, AND THE CONSTRUCTION COMMUNITY.

• THIS STANDARD ADDS A SEPARATE ADDENDUM FOR SHIELD TWISTED PAIR
(STP) WIRING.
• CHANGES IN FIBEROPTIC CABLING CONNECTING HARDWARE FROM ST-TYPE
TO SC-TYPE CONNECTORS.
• THIS STANDARDS ALSO BRING AROUND THE BEGINNING OF A STANDARD
FOR “UTP LINK PERFORMANCE.”
