Self evaluation To create a good impression on patients, grooming and dressing appropriately is important. Because dental assistant are in close contact with the patients, body odors can offend them. Showering every day is a must. Perfume is not a substitute for baths and may be too strong for an individual or they can have a allergic reaction to them. In addition, it is always good to have good oral hygiene. Not only because we, as dental assistant, for in a dental environmnent, but because we are always talking to our patients and being a good role model to our patient can lead them to wanting good oral hygiene as well. Dressing appropriately and being tidy is important. Uniforms should always be removed at the end of the day and washed after every use. Not all dentist require white shoes, but make sure they are comfortable. Flip flop and sandals are not allowed in a dental office. We are working in a professional environment, as assistants, and using vulgar words is not being in a professional manner. The office is not, in many case, a closed office. If patient have a sense of lack of confidentiality, you may never regain their trust anymore and they may never come back to the practice. Always make sure that a patients file is not out in the open. In addition, It is not only unprofessional to do so, but do not talk about someones personal life with other people including your peers. Sometimes, it is not always good to joke around with patients. There are some time where you have to be serious. No matter what situation you have with your patient whether the patient is disable or need special care, they must be respected and handle the situation with care.
