There are five factions that rule the world of fear and anxiety. Those who formed aggression formed Amity, those who blamed ignorance became the Erudite, those who blamed duplicity created Candor, those who blamed selfishness made Abnegation, and those who blamed cowardice were the Dauntless. In this type of society live's a beautiful young girl by the name of Beatrice. While sitting on a stool and her mom trimming off the end of her hair she talks to her mom of what she will do when it is time for the choosing ceremony. Now that the children of the future have turned sixteen and they stand on the precipice of adulthood they will decide on the choosing ceremony of which faction they belong in after they have their aptitude test. The aptitude test is held every year in which the test tells you which faction they belong in.

Now that Beatrice has turned sixteen it is her turn to choose which faction she will put her blood and faith into. Beatrice is from the faction, Abnegation. In the Abnegation faction everybody wears gray and don't do anything bad. Since they blame selfishness they are not selfish, and everyone has the same type of house. When Beatrice goes into the room for the aptitude test a lady puts a electronic circle on her head and when she closes her eyes she goes into a virtual world. In the world she first hears a loud voice screaming at her to pick up the knife or the hunk of cheese. Beatrice stays stubborn and so the basket disappears. First she sees a dog that looks very cute at first but his inner rage comes out and as he goes to attack a girl beside Beatrice, Beatrice grabs the dog and prevents any harm to the girl.
