We all come from various places around the world. We can tell this by our surnames, but do we know where the name originated, how it traveled around the globe. My name is Rodayna Hamouda I have always wondered what my surname name meant and where it came from. I recently found out that my surname is not actually Hamouda it is Seliem. My father changed his surname to Hamouda because he simply liked the name better. I did not know that until I recently asked him. After asking many people in my family where my name originated from or came from I have concluded that it was one of my great grandfathers from my father’s side of the family that came and settled in Cairo, Egypt he then got married and created a family. Also, that Suleyman the Magnificent came to Egypt and many families then adapted the name Seliem. Seliem, Selim and Salem are all the same. Many may have interpreted the name differently, but they are all the same word spelled in diverse ways. Many cities are called Salem in my different countries around.
