There are many different American Indian tribes in America, but one in particular is so many amazing ways of living, an amazing language, and so much more. This tribe is named after the Seneca tribe. In the beginning years, the Seneca tribe, pronounced Seh-neh-kah, settled in New York. The tribe named themselves Onandowaga, meaning "people of the mountain" in their language. The Seneca language is “an Iroquoian language of the Northeast Woodlands” (Orrin and Redish “Seneca”). Their diet consisted of corn, beans, and squash, as well as hunting and fishing for important proteins. One responsibility for the tribe would be fishing, but not on land. Amidst the trouble of being pushed out of the tribe’s homeland, the Seneca tribe demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience, refusing to let go of their heritage and united identity. Nowadays, the Seneca tribe has made significant changes while trying to maintain their authentic cultural heritage. Many Seneca people have established new communities and adjusted to change to different environments.
