Separate but Equal As time goes on, there are a lot of society improvement in the human’s history. This is how human civilization evolves. Overturning the separate but equal is one of those improvements that make human society develop. After American Civil War, the slavery was ended. Many people with colors, especially the black people were set to freedoms. America needed a lot of new laws to reconstruct the country. Therefore, many doctrines and laws were raised and voted. The Fourteenth Amendment gave blacks citizenship and the right to vote. Blacks became free citizens of the United States, but many whites were not happy with this change. They went to different schools; used different restrooms and even took different public transportations. Blacks could not work with whites, live in the same neighborhoods or send their children to the same schools as whites. Poor services and restrictions on voting rights limited them throughout the United States. They are such discriminations black were facing. And it is also obeyed the main idea of Fourteenth Amendment which guaranteed equal protection under the law to all citizens, and other federal civil rights laws. The reason that made the whole thing worse is a student seeking admission to a state supported law school in Texas. Because Texas did not have a law school for blacks, the local court delayed the case until Texas could create one. At the same day that Supreme Court issued the case above, it also claimed that Oklahoma segregation laws which required a graduate student to sit in the hallway outside the classroom door did not qualify as separate but equal. The facilities and social services offered to African-Americans were almost always of lower quality than those offered to white Americans; many African American schools received less public funding per student than nearby white schools. That is why the Texas established a state-funded law school for white students without any law school for black students. Because the education foundation of a country. We should put most attentions educating kids, the future of a country. If children do not get educated enough, a whole country would fall down. So this is kind of why Supreme Court initialized Brown v. Board of Education in 1954 to integrate southern schools, admitting that there is no place for separate but equal in the education filed. Educational facilities and resources should not be separated. This is
