The following month after the attacks america invaded afghanistan in an attempt to destroy the taliban government that was suspected of harbouring Al-qaeda leader Osama bin laden. The government was quickly overthrown however we would not uncover Osama Bin Laden for another decade. Keeping security in mind president George W. Bush signed the Patriot Act into law and created Homeland Security. The Patriot Act stood for "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001". As you can conclude from the name the Act was created in hopes of eliminating terrorism. The Patriot Act was formally established in 2002. Just one year later the United States in the early spring of 2003 invaded iraq in hopes of overthrowing Sadaam Hussein.
