Exposition:
Serayah Rose Jones was born in Englewood, Chicago on June 24th, 2000. Her mother was a single mom as her biological father had abandoned them both when she was born. Unfortunately, her mother could not afford to take care of her and gave her up to foster care at the age of seven. Serayah moved from foster home to foster home, never quite fitting in anywhere or getting adopted. It was not that people did not want to adopt her; it was the fact that Englewood was a poor neighbourhood where everyone else was trying to get by. Serayah did not mind the moving, as she had grown accustomed to the lifestyle. As the middle of June hit and her 18th birthday was a week away, Serayah got a call from her foster care supervisor. Serayah felt they had reached a high point in their relationship that she told him of her big dream of wanting a deal with a record label. Jeremih knew he could make this possible as he knew how great of a musician she is and agreed to help her. The day that Jeremih had set up a meeting for Serayah to meet with one of the best producers in his company, he got a call from Serayah’s foster mother, Aliyah. He had meet the woman a couple times, but felt something off about her. His reasoning for disliking her grew as she threatened and forced him to break things off with Serayah, never to speak to her again and to reject her label deal. Jeremih knew of the pain this would cause Serayah if he were to do as the woman said, but it was necessary, as she had offered him a deal that his company would benefit from greatly.
