Sergeant York was an interesting movie that served as an educational/propaganda piece towards the recruiting process of the military and also the rationalization of war.
York himself originated from the anti-war pacifist side. However, during the course of the film, especially in the promotion scene, he found himself in the position of debating whether war is sometimes necessary in order to serve the people of the States. He then comes to peace with the idea of war and accepted the promotion to corporal.
