A local issue that has come to my attention as I spend more time on campus is the amount of sexual assaults. I would like to research how dangerous our campus is and the amount of cases reported within UIUC. Being an incoming student and a woman on campus means that I am the most targeted group for sexual assault. The university FYCARE and Haven training that are sadly mandatory for all students emphasize the real risk all undergraduate girls face every day. This topic directly affects me and my safety, which makes it the perfect topic for me to research and write about. There are many reports of the statistics and individual cases on college campuses across the country. Resources such as, better sexual reproduction education, women’s support centers, and an increase in campus security are all measures that have been taken prevent and deal with this crisis on campus. Some of the resources I can utilize in my paper can come straight from the university resource centers themselves. In a few cases, people have argued that sexual assault is the fault of the victim for not adequately protecting themselves.
