The Growing Sexualization of Children in the Media Today
I thank you for this opportunity given to me to give a speech to the National Association for
Good Parenting. I am here to talk to you on the topic “The Growing Sexualization of Children in the Media Today”. First of all I would like to define the word Sexualization. Sexualization is basically the implication of the nature of sex not only on children but on teens, youths and adults. This is being established in so many ways which we are unaware of. I will make sure to try and touch on these areas effectively giving reasons in each case and explain the need to eradicate it in our society. These problems need to be dealt with as soon as possible to ensure the safe and secure upbringing

Because of this, we see instances of young children wanting to become old more quickly and partake in this sexual culture which the media has established.
Beauty pageants are also another example of sexualisation in the media. The fact that children have to dress up flashy and look sexy gives them the impression that they have to look or dress a certain way to be considered beautiful. Now some of these girls represent some characters in the world depicting some particular movies stars and celebrities. They act like prostitutes, whores and skanks just to win the shows. An example is the TV show called
“Toddlers and Tiaras”. In this television show, young girls partake in beauty pageants to win some money. They collaborate with their moms on their presentation and dressing and the way some of the girls on the show dress is certainly not appropriate. Elias Olaribigbe-000862-044

From the image above, we can see how mothers will do anything even exploiting their daughters to win the pageants not knowing that their children will have to grow up still

The contestant above is supposed to be a child but the way she dressed, she has lost her innocence in our eyes but we see the eyes of a hooker who she is supposed to be portraying. This is definitely not right for society.
Sexualization has been brought in the media in so many ways, and as good parents we have to strive to bring up our children properly making them dress in a beautiful and appropriate manner and not enforcing any ideas about sex on them. Also such adverts implicating sexual messages should be banned and our TV shows should impose strict rules against that. If we do this, sexualisation in our country will be successfully reduced. Thank you very much and
Goodnight.
